Kenwood DDX318 installed
I needed a new radio and got the Kenwood DDX318. It has not the original looks but sits in really flat and looks sharp.
Well the functions are great and everything works but I can't figure out why I have less Bass then before with the factory CD6.
This explains lots:

But honestly I am all confused with the q level and hz and everything.
Could anyone tell me what it means in terms of more or less bass? Simple and easy. Right now I got the Rock preset and modified it a bit. But it's still not as good as it could or should be.
Well thanks and have a good night
Eric

if you figure it out, please tell. I'm thinking you don't have the factory woofer if you are unhappy with the bass
I posted in your other thread, but the factory subwoofer is in the left rear qtr behind the 3rd row seat. The plastic will have a "grille" cut into it
But yeah, my system has too much bass. I've messed with it and just can't get her dialed in. If you can figure it out I'd much appreciate it.

Just checked it. I found the amp (made in china ugh) and it can be easily seen if you remove that thing on top.
Found the grille too but can't see if there is a woofer behind it or not. There is no working sub, no sound comes out of it.
How can I remove the grille without breaking it? It's clamped from inside but can't reach it.
Yes I have less bass than before. Oh and the amp has a plug on each side.

you will have to pull the entire panel to get to the sub. To get a signal to the sub; I cut a set of cheap rca cables and soldered the wires together and connected the aftermarket rca connections to the factory sub-amp leads, most aftermarket quick wiring kits do not feed a signal to the sub (even though they claim too). Also; you will need to add a resistor to your amp turn on lead from a non-stock HU (cheap at radio shack = $3) to reduce sub pop when the HU is turned on. The stock amp turn on is 4volts, the aftermarket turn on signal will be 12 volts. Also the stock HU has a crossover so you will need to run a HU with a crossover or filter the signal.

"Q" is the width of the EQ band you're adjusting. Hz is the actual frequency (bass, mid, high, etc).
The audible frequencies are 20 hz (biggest horn on a pipe organ) to 20,000 hz (almost a dog whistle). A sub will usually run 20-100 hz, a midbass 100-250 hz, a midrange up to 3000 & a tweeter from 3k to 20k.
An EQ adjustment will usually cover 1 octave, for instance from 40-80 hz. The Q can be adjusted to cover only 50-60 hz or as wide as 20-200 hz. This is helpful if you know you have a dip or peak at a certain frequency but that requires testing equipment to get it right, can't really do it by ear.
Generally I'd say not to mess with the stock settings unless you have the right equipment to measure your car's acoustics, otherwise you're just shooting from the hip.

Any tips on how to do this? I had a 5-channel amp mounted inside there when I first bought my '07 Expedition. The amp is on its way out and I want to replace it myself to save on installation costs (the wiring is all there already) but I have no idea how to remove that panel to get at the amp inside.
