Try replacing the headlight switch and see what happens.

Correct on the headlight l and r turn operation, when is spins l and r it is suppose to control the brightness of the dash lights, hence the rheostat in the switch design.

When it does that one click it is suppose to turn on the dome light. As well as keep it on regardless of the doors being open or close.

If I remember it is all the way R to make them dim and L to brighten up as it turns and then that one click L to turn on the dome.

I have a 75' F250 Highboy.

I have an issue with the dash light being extremely dim. The far left seems to be out. I also had a broken headlight switch. I replaced the headlight switch, unfortunately it did nothing for the dimness of my dash lights. I don't think changing it will solve your lighting issue, hard to say.

In case you have trouble releasing the speedo cable, click here. There is just the four screws holding the dash on so I don't know what is hanging it up by the ashtray...

When you check the fuses be sure to also check them with a test light to be sure there is good contact & power to both sides of each fuse holder.

I have a 1979 F150 4x4 Custom with the warning/idiot lights. I have 2 questions. First can i swap the idiot lights for a cluster with gauges and if so what all is involved? And second when i press my brakes the side lights come on and also the left blinker light will shine. Oh and also my dash lights dont work or my dome light but my seatbelt light will come on. I believe i know whats wrong with it though. Like someone said earlier the backing plate is turning to dust. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
