My sticker says my wheels are 16x7. With the wheels what is the largest tire without rubbing. Truck is stock height. I have read some guys run 295/70/16? I really would like a 33.5. What does it take to do a leveling kit? I am searching them now, is there a particular brand I should be looking for?
My other question is how are those bigger tires gonna do with the 3.73?
I've heard of guys getting away with 295's but most people call the max size of a stock Ford 285/75/16. Since your truck has leaf springs in the front levelling isn't as easy as later models, but its not overly difficult. I don't have much experience there so I can't recommend brands.
I didn't notice any big difference going up to 285's and I'm 3.73's
On my 2004 F250 I ran 315's on an 8" wide wheel but it was a close fit. Would rub on wheel well at full lock. I raised the front about 1.5" with an Edge mini spring kit. I've run these tires for 8 years now with no problems. Just put my second set on last month. I would say you can run 295's probably with no problem, 285's easily and 305's would be an option on an 8" wheel, all without raising the front. With 3.73's I would limit tire size to 285's if you're running the 5.4 gas, maybe 295's. If you're running the diesel or V10 you could get away with 295's but 315's are going to kill the pulling power running 3.73's. I ordered my truck with 4.30's because I knew I would never run anything but 315's on it. Personally, I would stay with 285's on your gearing.
I have 285/75-16 tires (about 34" tall) and they barely fit without rubbing at all (I have some small scuff marks on my driver's fender insert at full lock). If I went to 295s I would rub on the springs and the top of the fender insert at the bump stop. I have the OEM suspension (not even a leveling kit).
I have read of people running 315s on their stock wheels. You will run into tire wear issues and some hard rubbing if you try to turn to hard or hit any large bumps IMO.
I run 285/75R16 that are 33" and they fit fine with no rubbing. The biggest tire I would put on a stock wheel is a 295/75R16. The 295 is only slightly larger than the 285 so I would not expect any rubbing.
