Towing Capacity 2008 F250

It's a bit more complicated than that. I actually had to look this up to double check it.
If the combination is over 26,000 AND trailer is over 10,000, you need a class A.
If the tow vehicle is over 26,000 but trailer is 10,000 or under, you need a class B
With a class C/D there is no restriction on trailer weight as long as the combination is not over 26,000. You can also exceed 26,000 combined weight with a class C/D as long as the trailer is not over 10,000 AND the tow vehicle itself is not over 26,000

I agree. On this and other forums I belong to the CDL debate rages on with people claiming many differences. I always say contact your local DMV or whatever to get the infor you need. They aren't always helpful but NYS website goes into good explanation of what is needed.

I have the same type of question for the same truck
i have an 2008 6.4L diesel "SRW" 3.73 gear supercrew. And im having a hard time figuring out if the 5th wheeler im looking at purchasing will be towed decently by my truck mentioned above.. heres the specs. GVWR of pickup 10,000 front axle 6000 rear axle 6100, GCWR 23000
now for the5th wheeler..
Shipping weight 9580
Hitch weight 1720
Carrying capacity 2920
I dunno how to make these numbers add up, According to Ford i can have 15,200 lbs of 5th wheel on this truck. so it should do it right? Im confused i have looked this all up and 1 minute im sure it will and the next it wont because its too close to GCWR. then i read about pin ratios compared to axle rating *pop* my head explodes! any help?

So you are saying a wet wt of 12,500 lbs? What is the actual gross on the trailer according to the label?
shipping is different then what will be sitting on the lot.
Next...take the gross of the trailer and 20% of that will be the kin pin wt.
Based upon the numbers you did provide your truck will do that quite easily.

Your rear axle is 6100 lbs. Assuming that you still have the e rated tires then that is about the max you can put on it.
If you put your empty truck on the scales then you should need an empty wt of around 3100 lbs.
So that gives you 3K that you can use as payload.
So what is the king pin wt of the car hauler? That will become payload.
Air bags do nothing to increase capacity. They help to control the load and keep the truck level.
