help, 7.3 diesel fuel filter does not drain???

help, 7.3 diesel fuel filter does not drain???

hey guys, i am new to the world of diesel trucks and the forum. i changed my fuel filter four months ago and have put on about 3500kms. the water in fuel light has come on yesterday so i tried to drain the fuel bowl and nothing came out. should some fuel be coming out wheather there is water or not? what should i see when i open the drain? what if nothing at all is coming out? thanks tyson

Fuel should drain, probably just clogged up. Do you have a powerstroke or an idi.

Here's what you do. Take an old fuel filter cap and drill a hole to put in a male connector for an air hose off ur air compressor. Screw the cap onto the housing and open the drain valve. Regulate air pressure to 15-20 psi. That should dislodge the clog. When you get the bowl empty look down at the bottom for trash that looks like coffee grinds. If you see it clean it out by removing fuel heater at bottom of the bowl to gain access.

Assuming you have a powerstroke.

it is an idi. i could just clean out the filter housing then open the bottom and see if it drains i guess. what is the small screen between the filter and the reg called, i found this on another thread.
