way to identify 22 gal vs 20 gal front tank

I have a 75 F350 and I want to replace the front fuel tank, LMC shows two different sizes, I called and asked if they had a way to know the difference, they said no. So does anybody have a measurement or something to identify each one? Would either one fit?
Mine is badly rotted, I took a look for a part number but no luck.
So any help would be great.

Highjacking my own thread...does anybody know how to tell difference between a Super Trailer Special and a Super Camper Special, my truck has the rear axle that is further back and the big connector for the trailer/camper is on top of the left frame rail just behind the cab.
Thanks.

Not sure about the tank but i would guess you have the super camper special because its the only one with the axle moved back to my knowledge.

What do you expect? LMC has no Ford Truck Parts Catalogs...so, they have no fracatta clue!

Does anybody know how to tell difference between a Trailer Special (T/S) and a Super Camper Special (S/CS).

My truck has the rear axle that is further back (140" wheelbase) and the big connector for the trailer/camper is on top of the left frame rail just behind the cab.
There were three fuel tanks available for these trucks: In-Cab (thru 1976); Mid-Ship and Aft Axle.

All 1973/76 S/CS's I've seen have the In-Cab tank. Could have one or both of the Aft-Axle & Mid-Ship tanks. By the description, this isn't the In-Cab tank you're referring to.

20 gallon Mid-Ship tank = With Evaporative Emission.

22 gallon Mid-Ship tank = Without Evaporative Emission.

If your truck was sold new in CA, it prolly has Evap Emission. If not, it still might have it. CA vehicle: DSO code stamped on Warranty Plate will either be 71 or 72.

Look adjacent to the alternator on the frame rail for the charcoal cannister. Has lines routing from the tank(s) to it, then a hose from it to the air cleaner.

The tank(s) will have a hole in the top for the round fuel vapor valve.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
F350 Styleside Pickups on the 140" wheelbase: 1973/76 Super Camper Special / 1973/79 Regular Cab Trailer Special / 1977/79 Regular Cab Camper Special / Ford dropped "Super" after 1976.

1973/76: Is it a S/CS or a T/S? I dunno, both have the same exact features. The only visual difference is the specific S/CS or T/S front fender emblems.

Contact martiauto.com to get a copy of your trucks original build sheet and other info. There is a fee for Marti's services which escalates depending on how much info you want.

This is known within the hobby as a Marti Report. Marti has all the original FoMoCo records that cover 1967/79 vehicles, FoMoCo has none of it any longer!

In the late 1980's, FoMoCo was going to THROW AWAY all these records. Kevin Marti, a Mustang "nut" in Phoenix AZ found out...and got ALL of it.

FoMoCo used to offer free basic build sheets to peeps that requested same (the info came from Marti), but has just recently cancelled this program, now charges a fee.

btw: Your biography says "19 years at Ford Dealers." I assume you aren't a partsguy, cuz if you were, you coulda looked this jazz up yourself.

The 1973/79 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog is available on a CD from hipoparts.com.

Hey thanks, I was hoping either one would bolt in, and yes mine is EEC it has a 71 DSO I have bought stuff from both NPD and LMC, and LMC does have a 73-79 Ford truck catalog.
It is 140" wb but I have grafted on a Crew cab so the spare tire door in the bed is now about 8" wide.
I had read a thread on here somewhere that the big connector on the frame was in different locations for the S/CS and the T/S, all the emblems are gone so I thought I would ask.
Yea, I was a service department flunky.

Thanks for the info.

and LMC does have a 73-79 Ford truck reproduction parts catalog.

(sigh) It's their own made-up parts catalog, it has nothing to do with FoMoCo. How many Ford part numbers/applications are listed? N-O-N-E = NONE!
It's the Evaporative Emission System, usually abbreviated ev/em. It's not EEC = Electronic Engine Control System...uses an onboard computer and other jazz.

LMC does not have the 1973/79 FORD LIGHT TRUCK PARTS CATALOG, nor any other FORD parts catalogs, so they don't know diddly-squat about the very parts they are selling!

I read posts every day where peeps have contacted LMC, asking what's the difference, what else does it fit and etc. Usually I chime in and answer the questions (like I did for you), because LMC doesn't have a clue.

Besides, LMC is a middleman operation...uses the J. Paul Getty method of making money.

When you send in your order, they use your money to buy the parts elsewhere, from other repop sellers, autoparts stores.

Over 80% of the parts listed/illustrated in their catalogs...they don't have in stock. AFAIK, they don't reproduce much of anything, either.

Yea I now noticed that NPD refers to the evap system as EV and LMC refers to it as EEC, I can tell you dont care for LMC, you are right they are only order takers and know nothing, but they are cheaper than NPD on some stuff.
Who is the best reproduction parts source for these trucks?
