Hello, i have a 1998 ford ranger 4.0 4wd with the 5r55e tranny thats bad. I would like to swap it with a 2006 ford ranger 4x4 5r55e. The dealership says it wont work, but doing some reading on line says it will, that the newer trannys have an extra sensor called a ISS sensor and all you do is leave it unplugged.Can anyone out there verify that it will in fact work.

 

Just to answer my own post, it might help someone else who was in my situation. I can say now with 100% certainty that a 2006 5r55e will work , and work very well i might add, in a 1998 ranger with a 5r55e. I just installed the newer tranny today and it works perfect.
