400 help, oil smells a tiny bit like gas...

Was checking my oil today and noticed it smells like gas a little...

I know the diaphram in the fuel pump might have a hole and gas could be getting into the oil that way, but it doesn't seem to be eating gas more than usual, and the oil level isn't high on the dipstick.

However, the truck runs pretty rich, sometimes you'll just walk by and you'll smell the gas strongly...I'm thinking that hopefully, gas is just getting past the rings and getting in the oil that way. I know gas in the oil will hurt the bearings but soon I might get used 670 Holley Truck avenger as opposed to the old 650 Marine Holley on it right now, any suggestions? Thoughts? Solutions?

Thanks,
Steven

Flooding it will cause it to do that.

So less pump-age on cold starts? lol I'm changing the oil tomorrow, so after driving it around a little I'll check it and see if it still smells...

Just give it 3 pats at a time and try to crank it up.

I know I have to pat mine alot when I first crank it up but you got to be careful, flooding will happen before you know it and then it will smoke like crazy and foul your plugs.

I usually only do 2, but I've done up to 4 in this cold MI weather, and I might not need that much because the accelerator pump on the carb is pretty good, alot better than the one on the Autolite 2 bbl I was using for a while...

2-3 should be ok.

Just enough to not make your battery go dead or flood the engine.
