390 flexplate metal spacer

just finished build of motor, installed flexplate, digging thru parts, found metal "spacer" ring, it is a little bigger than the crank flange that flex plate sits on.
how important is the "spacer"
this is my first ford, learning lots

many thanks

That spacer goes under the bolts to provide a "crush" area. Is it needed? Well, Ford used it for a reason, but us shadetree mechanics just torque down the bolts with lock-tite

it helps to keep the flex plate from cracking around the bolt holes.

It is a crush spacer. Nothing more. Original part # B9AZ-6A366-B

There are many aftermarket torque convertors that won't even bolt up if that "spacer" is used. Keep that in mind.

NUMBERDUMMY is corect it is a flywheel REINFORCING plate not a spacer it is sort of like having washers under the bolts . helps distdribut the clamping loud of the bolt and keeps the bolt frome marking the flexplate witch cause stress cracks .needed ? ur call.
