Well that is how I read it as well. I don't see any missing valve Peices,a valve may have a crack from possible glow plug tip. That engine will get scrapped,I imagine the busted rings have destroyed the cyl, the head is junk. Now we all know where all the Peices had to travel thru. That surely can't be a pretty pic either.

That's what I'm thinking. The valve heads are intact. And whatever caused that damage was bouncing around the entire area of the piston head. The could have been a piece of valve head, but I don't see where a piece broke off.
Sure looks to me like either a GP tip or an injector tip.
With all that damage to the top of the piston, I'm surprised how good the cylinder head looks. Would have expected it to be pretty dingged up too since it's AL.
Looks like the problem with cracked valves extends beyond the CC trucks. I wonder what the build date was on this PU?
And what were the conditions leading up to the failure? High revs? Temps? Or was it just a random part failure? If we know more of what was going on, we could mitigate our personal risk.

I think gathering build dates for these failures could be a good thing.see if there is a pattern, with possible defective valves. Or something else is causing this. But now a pickup kinda puts a different twist to it,than being in the chassis cabs.
