I half wonder if you need the brakes adjusted more. my 5er comes in at 14K and i don't run the gain up that high.

I am almost twice as heavy.

I doubt it... 7.0 will lock my trailer wheels pretty hard using the manual lever... all four on dry pavement.

how much brake pedal do you use?

I don't think I use anymore than when I run empty. Will have to pay attention to that.

I do know that I can stop in short order. You know all those folks that cut in front of you kind of stops.

I think there are so many factors that impact braking action I wonder if it is even possible to compare settings between vehicles. For example, there may be differences between size of brake shoes on the towables, etc.

Senix, that could be. This was the first time I've ever adjusted brakes so I could have backed them off too much, thinking the rubbing noise was too much brake rub.

I adjusted the brakes until they locked, then backed off until the tire spun freely. Now beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so "spin freely" can vary. How do you guys/gals determine proper back off from tire locking?

Since it takes nothing to adjust them, I may put it back up on jack stands and try it again. But I don't want to burn them up either.

We are traveling to Brunswick, GA for the holidays, so we'll give her a good test.

Re-read the operators manual for the trailer brakes, made the adjustment as per their instruction (which meant I had backed off the brakes too much). Traveled I-95 to and from Brunswick, GA and had no issues. Trailer braked fine without any excessive drag or pull on the truck. Looks like actually reading the manual is a good thing. (I know, real men don't read the instructions!)

Thanks to all for the great advice.
