Do a search with keywords, "Federal Signal Corp". That's the company that makes most of the trick stuff for police/fire. There's a bunch of suppiers out there. We used to have a few spotlights floating around at work. Now days they like the spotlight up in the lightbar. I'm glad, too. They're a bear to install on the new cars.
I think we are talking about the same thing? Shaft goes through the post to the light, with a handle inside to direct the beam?
We installed an interesting light on one of our work trucks. Light sits up on top of the cab in a domed clear plastic cover, (like Barny Fifes-Mayberry.. . Wired to a control box inside with an attached remote joystick with a coiled mic cord. It's all remote controlled and bright, too. Come to think of it, it's a Federal. Works real well. You can rotate it to the bed or either side/front.
AW Direct sells them - they're Unity brand. I collect them off cop cars in junkyards for $10-15ea, but new they're ~$80. Another good one is the Go-Light, which is remote-controlled and $150-220.
Be careful when purchasing such lights to make sure they are for the application you require. Most places will sell roof mounting lights that will not fit through the A pillar. Unity, the manufacturer of the most popular, have dealer numbers if you call them. For most Ford applications the cost is $109.00 Retail for ABS black,$135 for chrome, and a further $50 for application specific mounting hardware.
I have the Unity 5" Spot on the left, and 5" flood on the right.
