86 6.9idi smoking badly

New to forum, but have read lots of posts as a non-member and learned a ton! My question is about my 86 F250. I just replaced the fuel injector pump, and it has done nothing to reduce the smoke. It's done a lot for power (relatively speaking), but it still blows a ton of white smoke. Any thoughts, ideas, etc would be greatly appreciated.

The timing is off. you can advance it(turn the pump to the right) or retard it(turn the pump to the left). How does the engine sound, if it sounds like a gas engine then the timing is too retarded, if it sounds more like a powerstroke its too advanced(i think)

White smoke is unburnt fuel. Hows your injectors? They can get dirty causing them to not spray the fuel properly.

I didn't do it myself. I had it replaced at a local ford dealership, but they didn't leave me with a ton of confidence. They talked around the timing issue when I saw the smoke was still there when the work was completed and asked about it...they said it was just old. The smoke smells like fuel if that helps. It does get somewhat better when warmed up, but not where I think it should be.

I also emptied my water seperator (also smelled like fuel) and plugged the drain hose with a plug to prevent air from getting in the system...

Does it have any form of rough idle?

Actually since you had the pump replaced I would take it to someone who can check the timing. If the pump isn't installed right, and getting the timing right is part of it cause timing is set with the pump, it will mess up the timing.

Oh and I wouldn't pay ford to fix a flat.

It does idle a bit rough (especially when cold)...almost like the idle fuel screw isn't set correctly??
