Help with Mercury serial number

Need Help with Mercury serial number

<HR style="COLOR: #d1d1e1; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1 itxtNodeId="636"><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->Being a Canadian truck, I've been having trouble finding any sort of information to decode the serial number of my '47 1-ton. I've tried to get a hold of the Ford Canada archives but haven't had any luck. A web search hasn't netted any results for the Canadian trucks either. I originally posted this in the '47 and older forum, but no one there seemed to have any info, and I was told there may be someone on here that has some info to help out.

Here's what I know.

S/N: 412H47-78610 (the frame numbers match the numbers on the ID plate on the firewall)
Engine code: 6J-6548 (from the transmission, matches the numbers on the ID tag on the firewall)
Trim: M-18001-J (from the ID tag)
Paint: M-1800-B (from the ID tag)

It's got the 4spd transmission with PTO.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, I've looked through that site extensively. Unfortunately there's a gap in the info there for anything older than '47. Hopefully someone has this info squirelled away somewhere...

Thanks anyway though...

It's hard to get information to decode the mercury serial numbers. They had a good one at one time in the Canadian Ford Historical dept. but Sandy retired a few years ago.
The Mercury web site just isn't as good as it should/could be. At one time I was collecting information on Mercury trucks but life got in the way. Looks like original paint behind that tag? Green? The only colour I've seen in early mercs has been the light brown colour for the interior but I've only seen half a dozen and they weren't all in original shape.
Wish I could be more help. Nice to here of another Merc on here.

Ford of Canada had a nasty habit of changing the codes on the tags quite frequently in the 40's and 50's, so it's hard to keep track of all of the codes without the correct year reference books, and even those have limited info in regards to trucks, where there's more details listed for cars. Probably due to the increased numbers of different models to keep track of. My data covers the later trucks, but I can tell you that the 412 part of your serial number has something to do with model, body style or wheelbase. I just don't have anything that would tell me the exact code. (my truck info starts with 1948, and the codes are different) The H denotes the assembly plant as 'Home Office' which was Windsor, Ontario. The 47 is your model year code (1947) and the last five digits are your consecutive unit number.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but hopefully this is more than you knew before.

Thanks! I'll take any info I can get. I don't suppose Ford was kind enough to keep the paint and trim colour codes somewhat consistent with the newer trucks, were they?

Sorry, but apparently not. I looked all through my paint and trim codes and didn't see any reference to your numbers.

Engine and serial numbers 47 One Ton

I know - old thread. I have a 47 Ford One tone with no firewall plate. However my engine # is 6J5429....so sequentially 1100 or so prior to the Merc in question. My serial number is 210H47-78496. I do know that 210 is Canadian Ford One ton. So the 412 must be the Merc equivalent.
My understanding is that original registration for the vehicle would have been by engine number. Can folks confirm this? Is it possible that trucks would have been registered over the years both by serial number and by engine number?

Being a 47, I would suggest you post this in the 47 and older forum.
