They are now very even in the weight dept.
so I hear - only took gm how many years to put a decent frame and real brakes on their trucks.
bottom line, its still a chevy. I've had enough of gm products to know I'm a lifetime Ford owner now.

if you look closely how GM puts things together they like to use clips instead of fasteners and they always seem to wanna use less of them too. GM stuff will rattle, ***** will beaks, things are not fitted together very well. just kinda how GM does its thing. they are normally easier to work on. and people are more used to working on them because they have to more often. I think the ford interior is better looking to me. I do have to say I like the looks of the chevies better. talk about dated styling ford has had the same since '98 we have to be honest with ourselves here. the best looking truck is the new dodge, then chevy, ford last. thats just my opinion.
I drove them both quite a bit before I bought and the Ford definitely felt snappier (more responsive) in around town driving and I preferred it to the feel of the GM trucks. GM apparently changed to a non-linear throttle mapping in 2011 to make the trucks easier to drive in low speed situations (parking lots) but I think they over did it to the point that it makes the truck feel sluggish off the line.

Concerning the opinions about the grill: could it simply be ahead of it's time? Also the GMC front end looks a lot like the Superduty's IMO.

I have been in both and both are nice trucks. It depends on what you want which will tilt you toward what you like. For example if you like a smaller more car like vehicle person then the GM product will suit you much better, however, if your looking for the big and trucky feeling then theres no question you will like the Ford or maybe a Ram better. All of them are nice but it just depends on what suits you better. For example i'm a truck guy all the way and the GM stuff is nice but totally does not appeal to me because its just to much like a car. Even my best friend is a GM guy all the way but every time he rides with me he starts making comments like " man i wish GM would make um bigger or man this truck is tough but smooth at the same time. Don't get me wrong his truck is nice but every time we go hunting theres just something missing when we take his and i've never said a word about it. Also the quality of the interior materials are just not on the same level as the newer Fords. I think now that Ford has their motors worked out GM is going to feel it in their total sales numbers. Guess time will tell but either way both are very good products compared to what we had years ago. i guess competition helps all of us.

x2 and I can't wait to see what the 2014 SD will bring. I expect Ford may hit it out of the park since it will be the first truly all-new SD since the late 90s and they'll have an opportunity to target their own shortcomings as well as those of competitors. I just hope the dimensions are a few inches tidier (lengthwise) so it will be an option for me when I'm shopping to replace my Avalanche in a few years.

GM's 2014s will simply have a new body on the existing HD chassis (which was new for 2011). Some spy shots of the new GM trucks have already leaked out. Any of the 2014 SD out there yet?

I wouldn't expect much more from Ford. They're selling more trucks than they can build. Why would they spend a ton of money changing them and risk people not liking them?

The super chief is a fairly old concept truck now. Almost every year you hear about it being for the next year haha. I haven't seen it being driven though, it is a sweet looking truck

They'll have to in order to meet the HD truck fuel economy requirements for the latter half of the decade. Expect to see the trucks getting lighter and wheels getting pushed further to the corners of the vehicles (shorter overhangs). The reason for the latter is that the fuel economy standard will be partially based upon the size of footprint of the vehicle with the tire contact points being the four corners of the footprint. The larger the footprint, the more fuel a vehicle will be allowed to consume. I really have to wonder if the solid front axle will survive the weight reduction process.

I hope they don't make drastic changes. I like the way they look now and I like how it performs.

Changes will most likely make it even more expensive. Sooner than later, its gonna cost 70 grand to buy one of these things.

$70,000 USD isn't too far away, sadly.
Big changes are coming in 2014, so I hear.
If not that drastic (the cost) for that model year, I would guess 2016 we're going to see those numbers for the Lariat models.

I hope I'm wrong but has anyone else seen these trucks decrease in price?

Little thing called inflation, historically it's run around 2% per year. Meaning that all things being equal, a truck made in 2001 would have an MSRP of around 20% less.

In 2001 a base regular cab, XL 4x2 F350 had an MSRP of $21,335. A 2012 model has an MRSP of 30,175, which is just under a 30% price increase. Add in the automatic transmission that's now standard on the 2011 for another $1,095 and we're down to around a 25% price difference. Add in another 125 horsepower, two transmission gears, tighter turning radius, 50% higher towing capacity and you have an awesome value compared to what was offered years ago.

So in my opinion, feature for feature today's trucks are cheaper than they ever have been.
