Help with '54 spare tire carrier

Hi guys, have been getting old '54 F100 thats been in family for a long time going again. It originally came with the bed side spare tire, but the carrier was lost decades ago. I purchased one locally recently, but I'm not sure I was sold the right carrier. Only the top four mount tabs line up with the bed bolts. The lower reinforcements of the carrier do not clear the fender as is.

I took some measurements with this one, mocked up in what looks like it would be appropriate position. The distance from the center of the carrier to the driver side rear fender (which has the factory relief cut fender) is only ~13.5 inches. My truck came with 16" wheels, which have 16x6.5 tires mounted on them. The radius of a mounted wheel is something around 15", so the wheel would not fit on the carrier and clear the fender. So is this just the wrong carrier altogether? Were these carriers all the same fromm 53-56, or were there different ones? For those that have a 53-56 with a bed side spare, what kind of clearances do you have? According to a repop 1954 specifications brochure I have, the spare was also a 16x6 tire on a 16x4.5 wheel, is this correct or was the Ford issued spare a smaller wheel/tire?

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Thanks for the reply Bill. But what are these numbers you post, with obsolete listed after them? So it looks like there were two different spare tire carriers possible for the '54 F100? My truck had left fender tire cut out where the spare originally went? What is the first carrier B7C-1433-A and where did it mount, not bed side?

Bill is a retired Ford parts guy. He is the go to guy when you need part numbers. That is the Ford part numbers of the item you need. Looks like there is one that fits your 54 F-100 B7C-1433A and it is Obsolete, no longer in stock. If someone has one on the shelf somewhere Bill will tell you where and usually with a phone number.
EDIT: That second number you see in blue B7C-16313-B is for the Fender itself.

I looked, no Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has B7C-1433-A, which is the only carrier listed for 1953/55 F100's and 1956 F100's, all w/a 110" wheelbase in the 1948/56 Ford Truck Parts Catalog (final printing 1964).

Several years ago, a member of the 1961/66 forum needed one...and there was one available...then. I found it, he bought it.

There are TWO D6TZ-1433-A carriers available, but whether this carrier can be made to work or not, I dunno.

spare tire carrier

F100PJ, Since you don't have enough posts for private messages I'll reply on here. I'm pretty sure I have the carrier you want since it is off a 56 F100 short wheelbase. I'll sell it to you for $80.00 shipped if you can't find one locally. My phone number is 479 647 6325.
