3 of them OUCH!! I'm with ford250. I have a list of need to do, should do, and gonna have to do, on one. If I had 3 I would sell the others to buy parts for the one I kept.
Use a timer on your extension cord. Have it kick in 2 hours before you plan to start the rig... save the unnecessary extra 8+ hours of block heater time.
When it real cold the block heater has to be in for over six hours to start with no fast idle. 2 hours does nothing here when its cold and it still kinda rattly on startup.
Sounds like yours is the way mine is. Brand new replacement block heater from Napa, and even with it plugged in for a couple of hours it takes 10 minutes for the truck to kick into low idle (around 1-5 degrees out at 7am recently)
I know the wiring in my apartment is crap and isn't helping any. Been debating on just leaving it plugged in overnight. Might just using a different outlet, since I've been using the kitchen one that has a fuse since my last rotten block heater cord caught fire...
I've noticed my MPG has dropped into the 13.xx range with the cold weather. Of course I usually let it idle for about 10 minutes in the morning to melt the ice.
Just in time for diesel prices to jump too. Went from 3.91 to 4.25 a gallon in about 4 days.....GRRRRR. Hopefully it will come down after Thanksgiving.
