Well, I broke down and ordered a Ferret V765-01 pulse adapter. Can't seem to get it close to right by ear. So, searched thru the forums trying to find the answer....close, but no cigar....anybody know off the top of their head at what rpm the 8 degree BTC is at? I am thinking it is 8 BTC at 2000 rpms......
The way it's acting, I am thinking I have some dribbling injectors, cause the pump is a new rebuild, but I'm getting unburned fuel and lots of blue smoke. Rough running at the top rpm at high idle, plus galloping at low idle after a few minutes.
The good side is, the lower end must be great, because cold idle, the oil pressure is 35, and warm idle 25.
chances are the new(reman) IP is showing the age of the injectors and that is giving you your smoke and and rough running. when i had 4 bad injectors i could easily smoke out the entire road behind me. it also sounded like a rod was about to be launched threw the block.
I run closer to 9 degrees advance, it was still a little smoky when cold at 8. I do have the pump tuned up a lot though, I'm not sure how much that plays in.
Pump was rebuilt by the local Stanadyne dealer, Des Moines Diesel. I assume they took it back to factory specs, and it's a 6.9 N/A. I didn't ask them to turn it up, anyway. Probably bad injectors. I know I have two that I had to put in that were out of my old engine temporarily, that had 140,000 miles on them. The others have an unknown number of miles. I plan to get the pump close to 8 degrees BTDC, and see what the injectors do from there.
Thanks guys!
