My '03 Escape XLT 3.0L runs up to 2600rpm when starting and then gradually works itself down to about 700 after about 50 - 60 seconds. The 2600 number seems pretty high but maybe it's normal.

What does everyone else see? And what could be wrong if it is too high? I don't take it out of Drive until it settles down so it's not so hard on the transmission.

OOPS! I meant that I don't take it out of Park until it settles down to around 700rpm. Was wondering what RPMs you guys see when you first start up. The 2600 seems high but maybe it's normal for the 3.0-? It used to be my wife's car so for all I know it always rev'd high. Jack

Yes its normal my wifes 06' 3.0 does the same thing. Also my F150 does it too. I have always just told her never put it in drive until the rps have come down.
