New to powerstrokes :-)
Hey guys, just picked up an 2001 e-350 minibus with the 7.3l. So I had to drive it home about 600 miles. I start leaked some oil out the back lost about 5 qts over the 600 miles . Took a quick look and im guessing its the rear main seal? Wondering if someone has a link to a haynes and/or any weak parts I should check 1st?
Thanks
Thanks

Good news is its Probably not the main seal. Could be but not usually the case. There is a good chance that the leak is around the HPOP and leaking across the top of the engine and over the top of the transmission. I would pull the doghouse out and take a good look to see if that is the case. Bad news is that in a van, its gonna be a pain but doable.
THE hpop is located on the top of the engine directly on top of the intake valley. It is driven off of the front timing cover.
here is one link to a previous discussion on it but if you search the forum for hpop leak u will find more.

First of all welcome to the 7.3 side of FTE. we're glad you're here. I think Carlton has you covered on the leak. HPOP, turbo base orings, EBPV orings are much much more common on these than main seals. Good thing is with the van, the turbo and EBPV is real easy to get to, the HPOP not so much. Trade off in everything, right? there are several Brothers on here with the E series, so help is usually only a click away. even better tell us where you are and there may be somebody close that is willing and able to pop over and help get er done!

sorry bout that!. It might be easier for you to pull the fuel filter assembly off to get a better look at the HPOP. Its been a while since I had to play with an E series. How are you determining it the back of the pump? or is it underneath the back of the pump? or could it be weeping from one of the fittlngs and down underneath.
do a search for "non serviceable plug" that little plug is serviceable and way cheaper than a new pump.
most of us use Clay or Bob for our o ring needs. both are Brothers here and both are outstanding men in their own right.

Clay Riffraff Diesel Performance Parts | Ford 7.3 diesel | 7.3 powerstroke | Ford Powerstroke | 7.3L Powerstroke Parts
again if you'll let us know where you are, most likely somebody is close to you and willing to get greasy fingernails.

Pics don't do these old eyes that much good. LOL there are alot of Brothers on the east coast. look into NEST(North East Superduty Trucks or something like that). do a member search for members in your area or just start another thread specifically asking for help in PA. you'll be amaized at the numbers of folks that will be willing to come by or offer help. usually requires beer though!
