So the wife is on-board with the truck swap

Some of you have been involved in my most recent threads regarding thoughts of regearing, doing a dually conversion, buying another truck, etc. I finally laid all the options out on paper and showed it to my wife and she basically said "it's obvious you've put a lot of thought into this, so I trust you to make the best decision."

I knew that the most difficult part to convince her was that buying a truck that isn't newer than mine with less miles is a wise decision, but she likes the idea of no payments, and she hears some of the bad news about the newer diesels from me, her brother, and her father.

So, it looks like I'm now in the market for a crewcab, dually, 4x4 with an auto trans that I can swap my JW trans into. I have the luxury of not being in a hurry because I'm still overseas for at least a little while longer (could be up until May), but if anyone runs across a good deal please pass it along.

Also, I will be looking to sell my truck once the changeover is complete, so if anyone knows of someone looking let me know. I don't intend to swap in a junk trans, I just don't want to lose the investment I made into the JW less than a year ago. I will most likely swap as many of my other mods as is feasible also.

And I really want to thank everyone for helping me with all of my questions to get to this point. One of the best parts of this whole proposition is that I still get to be a part of this wonderful 7.3 community.

ETA : One other requirement is that the new truck has a 4.10 gear ratio. Lord knows I don't want to go through all this to not get one of the main things I have been trying to attain!

hey Bob I know of a '01 or '02 dually cc like you are looking for. I know it was well taken care of because it belonged to a guy that rodeo with us, the only thing is I'm not sure it was a 4x4. I'll find out in the next day or two & let you know if you'd like.

Yeah, find out the particulars and let me know. Ideally I could find someone who would be willing to make some sort of verbal agreement until I get a little more resolution on when I will be coming home. It could be as soon as next month or as late as May. Thanks!

Ok, thanks. It must be 4wd for the trans to swap out, thats the reason for the requirement.

Thanks, Rick. Was just looking at a truck almost identical to yours on Craigslist. You know I have always said you have the best looking truck on FTE!

Here's the one I was looking at:

Here's the one I was looking at:

F350 7.3 DIESEL 4X4 CREW CAB DUALLY
That truck looks nice. I know it's hard to shop for a truck being out of Country, but if you find one close to me, I would be happy to check it out.

Thanks for the complement and your service.

Well guys, I'm starting to think I am crazy. For the past couple of days I have been having serious second thoughts about doing the swap. I have so much time and money invested in my truck that, and I am really hesitant to start over again. It's nice to know that I have the wife's blessing for whatever I decide to do, though. By the way, have you guys seen this towing guide from Ford that shows that an F350 DRW has a lower 5th wheel towing capacity than SRW F250/F350?

If you want a mega-tow rig, why not look for a 450-550?
My 550 will pull my house down if I wanted too!
