Any tips or advice 4180

Recently had to work on my 4180. One thing I learned is that for starting and running, the carb only uses the primaries. Therefore, removing the front bowl (4 bolts) may reveal your problems without removing the entire carb. The accel pump is on the bottom of the primary bowl.
Read my post "351 HO carb" for further info.

If you're leaking gas at the accel pump I would say a rebuild kit is in your future. Holley rebuild kit 3-1346 is the one you want. It's plastered all over this forum because you can't find it on Holley's site very easily as these carbs were made specifically for Ford and using an 1850 rebuild kit doesn't work. If the truck has been sitting a while I would definitely take the carb off and rebuild it. The carb is held on the intake by just 4 bolts and is real easy to remove. I would take pics of all sides so you know how the vacuum lines reconnect but other than that it's a breeze. I've rebuilt mine a couple of times since putting the engine back together. The instructions that come with the kit are in depth and tell you everything you need to know. Just remember, as many people here will tell you, to lubricate the o-rings that go on the transfer tube.
