It is. I can tell you this because I just got the truck running. I ran it for about 5 min and realized that I needed more coolant so I got to go get some.
There was a good amount of smoke coming out of the exhaust. Not sure how long that should last for but everything seemed OK. The oil pressure was normal and it was idling fine at 2300 RPM. No strange bangs or noises. I am just not sure what to expect. It's my first motor I installed, let alone put together. I am surprised I got it to start.
It sounds to me like you are one tooth off when you stabbed the distributor. On a sequential fire fuel injected vehicle you need to make sure you have the #1 plug and the "signature" vane on the stator ( aka PIP) in proper alignment. The PCM needs to know where the crank/cam is in relation to energizing the proper fuel injector.
Well something went wrong and I am not yet sure what it is. After I got back from the store the smoke stopped (I think it was a bit of the moly lube burning off) and I added more coolant, I could tell when the thermostat opened and a few min after that a lot of coolant started leaking from the passenger side near the firewall. I wasn't able to tell where it was coming from and I was letting the motor cool when I noticed some coolant leaking from the seal on the timing cover where the crank goes in. So that can't be good.
I pulled the oil dipstick and it is a light brown and very thick.
