Question Speedometer and ABS issues 99 F350 V10

99 F350, V10 gas, 5speed, rear wheel ABS

My speedometer and odometer are not working, the ABS light is on and the computer is throwing out a P0500 code for the VSS.

I have changed the VSS, and still same code. I've also changed out the ABS control module, and changed out the guage cluster. After all that, still having the same problem. I've also checked the continuity of the wires going from the VSS to the ABS module and its good.

Seeing how the VSS is also the ABS sensor I'm fairly certain all of this is caused by the same issue. I just don't know what the issue is.

Took it to the Ford dealer and they didn't know what they were doing. They wanted to change out everything I've already done. And told me I needed a new fuse panel cause I was missing the fuse for the 4wheel ABS system. (I have 2wheel ABS)

Dealer also wanted to change out the Generic Control Module. Would that cause these issues and nothing else in the guage cluster,or anywhere else, to be messed up?

I was told to check the tone ring. But I don't know how, or where. I'm good with a wrench and can do most anything on my own. I just need to know how.

Please help!

the tone ring is accessed by removing the rear axle cover. It is what the vss sensor reads when sending a pulse for abs and speedo. I highly doubt its the problem, as it is a ring as large in diameter as the rear axle ring gear with fine teeth on it. Try removing the vss and wiping it off as its magnetic, and make sure the plug is correctly fastened. When I changed mine, it was called the rear abs sensor in the aftermarket catalogs. Considering an aftermarket one is maybe $30, try installing another one first. My aftermarket one fit maybe loosely in the hole, so a little dab of silicone sealer did the trick for insurance from leaking. Your original one could have been defective or damaged during installation.

Take the sensor out and look inside the diff with a mirror you should see teeth from the tone ring. I think you can feel them with your finger. Maybe it broke. Never heard of that.
