I have a 1995 four door 2wd explorer that has been totaled and needing to take the trans out and put in a 1994 explorer. They are both automatic and the 95 has a plug near the tailshaft. Is this going to be an easy swap or am I wasting my time? Thanks
I dont believe it will work as the 95 Explorer uses the 4R44E/4R55E Electronic transmission, while in 94, it used the more mechanical transmission AOD. Things such as the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) regulated many aspects to the operation of the vehicle in the electronic transmissions, where the older mechanical did not rely on computer control as much. Things such as speedometer and kick downs in the electronic models were computer controlled.

'94 is the A4LD. '95 is the 4R55E. AOD never installed in Exploders.
Since the A4LD used some electronic control and the 4R55E uses electronic control, the controllers (in the ECU) would be different.
So I would think you would have to bring the ECU over along with the trans. PITA methinks.
I would horse trade the '95 trans for a rebuild of yours or a rebuilt A4LD.
