What's going on with fuel prices?

I've been noticing the price of gasoline drop significantly, while at the same time the price of diesel rising! I've never seen this before and I'm wondering "What's going on?!"

I feel like I'm being punished for having a more efficient motor!

The price of a barrel of oil today teetered around $98, which if it stayed there would drive gas prices to just below $3.00, but we know it takes longer to go down than to go up. Now that the home heating fuel season has started that makes diesel to be in higher demand.

I know up here in MN the racks have been running out of diesel due to the Farmers. Last I heard they were loading out 1.5 million gallons/day to farm country.

You know, growing up on a farm I should have figured that out myself. These are all good reasons for the price to rise. I'm still not happy about it!

BTW, there's a station here selling gas for $3.05 now. Diesel is $3.95.

I checked in with my friend last night and up here anyway sounds like the farmers are done. But we are shipping a bunch up to Canada because a refinery burned(5+ years to rebuild) and the oil rush going on west of us is taking a ton of fuel. Neither of which sound like they will go away any time soon. I've seen gas at $3.15 and diesel is "down" to $4.15.(was $4.30) What happened to the good-ol-days when diesel was less than gas?

Hmm, just did some reading. We're also at the point in the year where refineries are shifting some production from diesel to heating oil...like sddesigns said.

That was when there weren't as many diesels on the road for fun and pleasure.

Exactly what is going on... I paid $3.67 last night for Deezool in Virginia...and waited in a line to do so. Given the demand component, heating oil carries more profit if a cold winter is ahead.

The price in Saudi right now...about $.23/gallon. Yeah, it's subsidized, but you can't tell me their government is paying about $3.45 for every gallon of Diesel pumped. Something to be said about pumping it, refining it, and selling it without crossing a border. But not here...

I hope it gets that low around here. Regular unleaded is still about $3.45 around here right now. I don't often pay attention to diesel myself, but it looks like diesel is still around $3.85 the last I noticed. Unfortunately, some media are reporting that its about to go back up.

Yeah, I'm not sure how current everything I read was, but from the sounds of it a large % of our diesel is imported. Europe is using more diesel and less petrol and China is sucking up every fuel supply. So, we can't import as much diesel...and prices go up

You have it cheap, we're at $4.19/gal.
