Looking for advice on train horn install
I have decided that my next upgrade on my 2012 F350 is going to be train horns. I am looking for advice from people who have put these on their trucks. Just like every project there always seems to be things you are glad you did and maybe some things you wish you had done different.
I am looking for some info on compressor and tank locations and horn location. For power to the compressor I plan on using the upfitter switch with the highest amperage. One thing that I am not clear on is how you activate the horn from inside the cab.
Any insight you guys can give would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Jeremy

Here is some info on how I did mine. I used upfitters to power the compressor and to toggle the stock horn button to activate train horns when needed.

I have pics in my albums, take a look. My things aren't as refined as a lot of you guys but it works great.

My VIAIR system has made me very happy, I would recommend it to anyone. I have pics of it in my albums too.
I made install notes but I can't bring them up when trying to search for them. I use the air system constantly, it's always aired up and ready to do my airbags, horns, and tire pressures.
My horns are controlled by an up fitter switch. I should change it to a button, it would be smarter that way.
I hope my pics help you out.

With this setup, I can turn off the air horns when I don't want them on. I don't have to worry about a second horn button, and the air horns don't go off for any of the remote locking confirmation/security stuff.
Re-reading my post above I realized that it was clear as mud.

Just to clarify because I did a rather poor job of posting what I meant by my switch setup. The stock steering wheel horn button activates both the stock horn and the air horns. When the upfitter switch is off (or the ignition is off regardless of upfitter position) honking the horn just activates the stock horn. With the upfitter switch on, the same steering wheel push activates both. The air horns completely drown out the stock horn.

I just picked up a Viair 10007 kit this last week.
Still need to order the Shocker XL horns.
Are your horns metal or plastic ??
I plan on setting mine up the same as the link above.

I never got around to doing it so I can't help... But this is my favorite sounding video of all time on the subject. I haven't listened to it in a while and I'm suddenly feeling inspired again... Video Link: http://youtu.be/UUNnC-9XMnI

I know this thread has been quite for a few weeks, but I wanted to add to the conversation. I did mine just like Epic.

I use Viair 10007 compressor mounted under my crossover tool box, out of the elements, and I mounted horns under body facing backwards so it doesn't gather snow and water in forward motion. Hope this helps.
