hi i have a 96 f150 ex cab short bed,bad bed & have been doing a search fo doing a swap,everybody says that 87---97 are the same but some say that it is 87--91 & 92--96 so whats the deal,whats diff 87-91 & 92-96

i believe 87-97 bed are the same.

 

A bed from either a 1987 to 1996 F-150 OR a 1987 to 1997 F-250 or F-350 will work.

 

As far as the sheet metal is concerned, 87-96 ('97 F250), are the exact same. The side molding and tail lights are different between the Gen 8 and Gen 9 trucks, but they can be swapped if the small differences are a problem for you.

FYI, an 80-86 bed will also fit the frame & cab of an 87-96 truck, but the wheel wells, tailgate, tailgate latch, and molding are different and non-interchangable to an 87-96 bed.

 

when in doubt look through a LMC Truck catalog. all answers will be posted or ebay works well too

 

Yep. All the metal behind the windshield matches. I even have '90 doors and roof skin on my 94, and I think the bed was a 92.
