truck trying to start, ignition not engaged

i have a 150 that is trying to start when we hook up the battery cable and the ignition is not being engaged,does anyone know what could b the problem???????

Solenoid valve stuck closed?

^^^ Most likely cause. Remove the little wire from the solenoid to eliminate a short or other problem but if it still tries to start then I'd replace the solenoid. You could try and tap it to see if you can get it loose but if it stuck once it's toast and on borrowed time.
