Inside belt goes crank, waterpump, alternator. 2nd belt goes crank water pump, PS, AC. There is a 3rd small belt that runs off the alternator to the vacuum pump.

Thanks buddy

hey, just a question, i see 4 belts, one to crank, pump, alt, 2nd crank, pump a/c 3rd, crank, pump, p/s. and the little 4th one alternator to v/p pump? i looked up 89 7.3idi, and that diagram came up? i confused now lol, dont tell anyone but iam a ASE mech for gasoline Vehicles.lol not new to diesels, but still learning. Also i pyroed my truck, and turned up IP screws one in intake line, and behind that triangle plate. a couple flats, she blows good smoke, and good power, w/ good mpg's. took awhile, but finally did it, i took IP off and put it on my bench, and did it that way, and reinstalled it. while i cleaned pump, replaced o rings, etc, etc,, what have you done to yours? i love your pic.

And, can you tell me what you think of straight pipes for these non-turboed diesels. and how did you do your stacks?

for belt routing, when in doubt i buy the right belts and see how they fit. my 87 6.9 has twin belts crank, water pump, PS. one crank, alternator. one alternator, vacuum pump. i don't know if it changed for 89, but with the right belts in your hands it should become obvious

That should be correct for the belt routing. 4 belts as you stated, thats how my 88 is.

Others on here will agree, blowing smoke is wasting fuel, polluting the environment, and gives us with diesels a bad name.
My truck had an issue with the exhaust at one point before I had the turbo on. It was so damn loud I went out that night to get the part to fix it. YMMV, but a muffler may needed legally to meet noise requirements in your area, not to mention save your hearing. Supposedly a turbo breaks the noise up enough a muffler isn't needed. I haven't tried that so I can't comment any further.
