'91 2.3 8 Plug PCV Valve

Ok, so I', a pretty good Ford mechanic. Been working on my own for 30 or so years. My co-worker buys a 91 Ranger with the 8 plug motor, and it won't pass the emissions test. I put in the first 4 plugs (this was before I found out there were 8), and realized I needed 4 more plugs. So, on to the PCV valve. I bought one and it looks like any other, that fits into a grommet in the valve cover. The problem is, there is no grommeted hole in the valve cover. There is a metal tube that comes out and bends 90° towards the throttle body and has a rubber hose that connects it to the throttle body. No PCV valve. Any idea if there is a different type that goes in line with the rubber tube, or does it go somewhere else?
Anyway, tonight is the second 4 plugs. Gonna need some bourbon to get at those . They look like more fun than the plugs on my F-150 Triton engine.
