2001 F250 for 1997 F250

I am asking this in multiple forums because the people with the most knowledge reside on one side of the forum or the other. I am thinking of trading my 240K mile 01 F250 for a 97 F250 with 240K miles. The powerstrokes are from two different generations but are both 7.3 liters. My 01 is a 2WD and the 97 is a 4WD manually shifted. Both are automatics. I am looking for potential oversights that I may not have considered as pros or cons. Any and all opinions are welcome.

Guess it depends how much the 4wd is worth to you. Same basic engine, though doesn't the 2001 have an intercooler on the turbo? Either of them been rebuilt? An even weaker transmission and everything else on the truck is 4yrs older. Older body style and older in general so not as much value. Dunno, seems like 4wd would have to be worth quite a bit to you to justify all of that. Why not trade or sell your truck and get one a little newer or at least one w/ fewer miles?

its still a 7.3 bottom line, almost bullet proof. The '97 E4OD trans is weak just like the newer version 4R100 that replaced it. The front leaf spring twin i beam front end on the '97 is a so-so front end, i had one in an 85 F250 and one in my 97 F250 and had no problems what so ever with either, but i know people who have them and plow and they wear out fast, dumb bushings in the pivot cant take the abuse. Little more maintenance with the 4wd but the old fords have real spindle's in the front so the bearings last forever with greasing from time to time. I personally am thinking of selling my 2004 F350 to go get another 1997 F350 truck so i guess that means something i think?

'99 Super Duty got the inner cooler from the factory. Theres no 1998 model year, just the early '99 and then the updated late model '99 and so forth

Right, that's my point - the '97 doesn't have an intercooler.
