steering column

Not sure if you've noticed, but your steering column is connected and part of the steering box itself. You can't change just the column without radical modifications. You need to decide what and how you'll make those changes before thinking about columns.

Hey Rob,
I also have a 1950 F1 with rack & pinion steering up front.
Hmmm... I used a 30 inch replacement column - (I needed all the
room possible for in the cab clearance issues - me fitting behind the wheel). Steering is tricky - not really an area I found that was easy to
just patch together cheaply. You want your steering to work.
$220 Steering column (Ebay 30 inch - GM harness style) -
tilt & horn on column - no key). I also had column shift.
$100 - $200 Steering wheel
$150 - 2.5 in Column drop, Horn button, & Borgeson type joints to connect to rack.
Hmmm.. The expense isn't necessarily in the column you choose but all the other stuff you need to install it & connect it to the rack & wiring.
Rebuilt older columns on-line were more expensive than new stuff. I think if you go the salvage route - anything that's 30 inches or so should work - much longer & you run into problems. Good luck over there.

So you stated the column IS part of the steering box.
I have a 50 F-2 wanted to take cab off.
Got steering wheel off- messed uop the threads on end of column!!!!
wanted to get column off so it was easyer to lift cab off.
So do I need to take the whole steering box off to do that??
Or take apart the box??( More then I wantd to do)
Any advise is helpful at this point.

Dang Snowball effect! Yes, remove the entire box from frame. remove the seal plates around column on floorboards. and probably need to remove the brake/clutch pedal assembly to get the box up through the floor. (you might get lucky with wheel removed already and be able to squeeze the box up through the floor with brake clutch pedal still in. but seat needs to be out and emergency brake cable needs removed first)
(I just did this with a 50 F2 but had to remove the brake and clutch rubber step plates that screw onto the pedals)
edit, nevermind, just reread your question. if the cab is coming off you'll need to remove all that stuff anyway

Thanks JMADSEN for the advise on steering box!!
I guess I'll soak the snot out of the stuff with with BD-BLASTER and try to get it off the frame.
I do have all the stuff out of the cab now. Just need the steering out of the way,
get a few beverages for the help I need to lift the cab off and I'm set for one of the many winter projects on this thing.

Hey Rob,
I thought this link from oldtimer out in California was great for just making it happen on steering column fixes.
