So, recently I had a squeak in my clutch pedal. I just sprayed the linkages under the dash with WD-40 and it went away (also made the pedal much easier to press). Now I have a new problem. More recently, my clutch pedal hasn't been returning the full way. It gets very close, but then just stops. With a slight kick it will snap back up to the proper location. I've tried WD-40 again, but it didn't help it all that much. Should I try some lithium grease?

I seem to be spraying everywhere. There is one spot where a spring right above the pedal goes into a long cylinder (like the brake pedal does), but I can't see that spot let alone spray it.

 

Your lubrication may be too late. I would look it over carefully and see how much play is in the bushings and if the shaft is worn.

 

Yeah.... If you have a 1981, it's a mechanical linkage and WILL wear out under the dash, look at all of the pivot points and see how bad it is.

WD40 will work for a little while but I suggest silicone grease (go to your hardware store).
