I've run 16.5" Weld wheels on my 2000 Ford F250 from the day I brought it home. BFG T/A tires, 33x12.50x16.5. I get about 55k out of every set. I'm not lifted or I would run the 35x12.50x16.5 T/As which are E ply rated, 3610 lbs load per tire. PM me if you have questions.
They are also illegal to use on the road! No DOT approval# they are a extremely hard durometer rubber and will not have ant traction on wet or icy pavement if you want really cheap illegal tires finda short course class8 racer and buy his takeoffs for $20.00 a tire like I do! As a plus they are all 17" rim's and are a extremely soft durometer & do great in the wet & ice!

I believe you are think of the really old ones not the ones pictured. If i remember correctly they were bias ply and not DOT approved. The ones pictured are DOT approved and radials. I picked up a set of the MT's from 100dollarman awhile ago and use them on my 1/2 ton pickup for going to the dump and for awhile daily driving. Other then being noisy and having a stiff sidewall there is nothing wrong with them. Mine are wearing like iron. I think you need to understand the context they were designed under. To be used with the run flat system and keep going when they are all shot up. Yeah you can use them on your SD but they work better on a lighter truck. Mine is a K10 SWB and they work well for general off roading. I have some BFG AT that are much better all around. The goodyears are cheap though.
Im not sure the Bias Ply G/Y Wrangler MTs (36x12.5x16.5) were DOT or not. Im sure that there were thought but cannot recall or prove it as they have been out of service for over 6yrs. By regulations both Army and DOT our vehicles must conform to DOT standards to include the tires. Talking to some of the guys that have been around longer said yes they were DOT legal, but I cannot get any pics of them.
