F150 Lariat 6.2L V8 towing TT
Ok, so now we are back to square one because there are no leases on the F250's and we can't afford to buy one at this time. We ruled out the Eco Boost 3.73 axle ration HD trailer tow because with 17,100 GCWR there is nothing out there. The dealer now wants us to look at a Lariat 6.2L VCT 2-value V8 with a 3.73 axle ration, 7770 GVWR and 1770 payload - supposedly with a HD Trailer Tow Package. They said its the 17,100 GCWR with 145" wheelbase 4x4 - should have max. loaded trailer weight of 11,100. So if the GCWR is 17,100 - 7770 GVWR leaves us to pull 9330#. Our trailer GVWR is 9570, but I estimated that we pull more around
8500# - estimated tongue at 1,000#. Everyone was so helpful over the weekend when I posted about the Eco Boost. I am going to ask for some written proof of the above specs from the dealer before I have them bring the truck in. Any thoughts? (I was thinking we should probably go to a scales in the spring and weight total pkg. then adjust as needed) Am I still in trouble?

Since you cannot afford new (neither can I, so I understand ), have you looked at all into the pre-owned market? There are still a lot of nice 6.0s and 6.4s (diesels) out there, not to mention the 6.8L V10 which is a towing machine if diesel is too much for ya.
It if were me in your shoes, with my family's safety potentially at risk...I'd be stepping up to a SuperDuty.

If your tongue weight is 1,000lbs then that would only leave you with 300-600lbs of additional payload room. Not much when you add a wife, kids, dogs, luggage, etc.
If you want a gasser, the V10 and 5spd trans offered from 2005-2010 makes for a great tow vehicle. It's not the most fuel efficient beast, but it'll get the job done.

Yeah, even new you can get a lot more truck for the same or less money. The 6.2 is only available in the upper trim levels on the F150s (re:45K+ for a 4x4) but you can get a F250 for 5K-15K less than fully loaded half ton. Even stepping up to a XLT or a SRW F350 is only a fraction more. Plus you get a stronger truck with a higher pay load/tow rating, a real axle up front if you get a 4x4, better tires, and the ability to check or uncheck more options to fit the truck to your needs. I still say the 4x4 F250 XL is the best value in the truck world right now. I will tell you if you're shopping for a gasser I would say hold out for the 4.30s in the rear.
As for the used market you can get a great deal on gasser Super Duties right now. Everybody with a two horse trailer thinks they need a Turbo Diesel now a days and everybody is afraid of the MPGs they think gas trucks get. I've towed some HUGE loads with the V10. They can do anything that a Super Duty chassis can handle. And if you drive sensible the mileage isn't that bad considering the capability. But, like the new ones, I'd say hold out for a truck with the 4.11 or 4.30 gear sets.

Welcome to FTE! You are most definitely hovering in Super Duty territory. A man must know the limitations of a truck. A base F-250 gets you a 10,000 lb GVWR with the 6.2L.
You mat consider looking at some pre-owned superduty trucks. As state above, if you go gasser, opt for the 4.XX gear sets.

6.2L F150 V8 pulling TT - Not Buying
We are staying with the idea of a F250. The dealer keeps bringing us back
to the F150, but I'm staying away from it. I'm not familiar with a gasser
V10? Maybe someone can explain for me. This truck will be my everyday
car and towing a TT spring through fall. I don't put that many miles on
a truck and I don't need something to fancy. Having trouble trying to
find a 2011 F250 so we may have to take your advice and look for a low
mileage '09 or '10. Thanks.

2008-2010 6.8L V10 should not be too hard to find. They are out there. I just passed up a 2006 Lariat F350 CC shortbed with the 6.8L on 38"s. Such a clean truck, but the CFO (wifey) said hell no.
Here's the 2010 spec sheet from the links up above:

That should at least get you started with your research about the SuperDuties.
Good luck!

I would buy this if I were you.
Idaho Falls, Blackfoot, Pocatello 2008 Ford F-350 SUPERCAB Used Truck Rexburg, Rigby St. Anthony Jackson,Alpine,Afton Broadway Ford
8,000 miles on the clock. I test drove it, but don't really need a truck that big.

We have a 2008 V10 F250 Superduty that pulls our TT and is my daily driver.
While it may not get great mileage, the engine is fantastic, and is very proven and durable. I only have 26K miles on mine, so you can tell that my "daily drives" are not very far. We live in a town of 14K, so nothing is far.
In town mileage is 9-10 on the crappy winter gas, and 10-11 on the good summer gas. Expect 12.5-14 on the highway, depending on speed and wind.
My trailer is not very heavy, at 5000lbs, but the bed is also always full, and there are 4-5 people in the cab and a 120lb Rott (he is a chicken in a Rott suit, who thinks he is too tiny to jump in the bed). We tow up major grades, going from 5000ft to 8500ft, and everything in between. We just set the cruise and go. There is no fuss, and no muss. Just understand that you will get some high rpm running. However, the engine is built for it, and can do it all day long, every day. There is never a want for more power, even at 6-7% grades. Towing mileage is 1-2 less than empty.
Make sure you get one with the Tow Command, which includes the built-in trailer brake controller. It is fantastic............... as is the TorqShift trans. It is smarter than most drivers out there.
We bought this beast for now, and the future, so we will never have too little truck. It can tow 12500 bumper pull, and 13900 5th wheel. It is a CC, shortbed 4x4.
If you have any questions, just ask.
