Good morning Idaho!
Hey Micah...opening day gun season was successful here in Indiana...
My 12 year old daughter was able to harvest a nice mature doe. The doe had another doe with her and what looked like a young 6 point buck...the buck was off property and didn't give us a good opportunity...and since my daughter is just learning how to hunt...I told her to shoot the big doe...this will help get her confidence up for her in harvesting deer...so she made a great shot on this doe...the buck...well...will look for a more mature one...
Here's a picture of Zoe with her deer...look at the smile!
Here is Zoe showing off her pink camo nail polish...
I'm planning on getting back out Wed and Thurs this week while she is in school...and then on Saturday morning by myself...we'll hunt together again on Sunday and then next week too...I really enjoy hunting with her in the same blind...but if she keeps shooting deer like this (this is her second of the year!)...I'm kicking her into her own stand or blind!...LOL...
Hope everyone has a great deer season...ours started out nicely...
Have a great week everyone,
Joe.

Micah,
Indiana has a huge deer population issue...the county Zoe and I hunt allows 8 antlerless deer to be taken PER HUNTER over and above all of the other licenses...
So in theory...someone could shoot 2 with a bow, 1 with a gun, 1 with a muzzleloader and 1 with a bow or cross bow during late archery...also Zoe gets an extra one for the "youth" season...
Only ONE of those above can be a buck...so in total...someone "could" if they so desired and had the fortune...shoot 13 (or 14 for a kid) deer with only ONE buck out of that...
We did see two small young bucks...but if either had given her a shot...I would have told her to take it...it would be her first buck and she is really wanting a buck...any buck!...
But now...that we passed up those two young bucks...hopefully she will get to see a nice mature one and get an opportunity to take a shot at him!
How restrictive or free are your game limits on deer?...are they whitetail or mule deer out in your neck of the woods?
Joe.
