Want a little more power out of my 300

I have a 1987 ford f250 with a 300 and a 4spd. it is fuel injected, and I pull a lot of trailers with it. It does good, but I'd like a little more get up and go. I am on a college budget so I don't have much money, so are there any cheap upgrades that I can do to get more power? I don't need no hotrod or any rcord breaker, just a little help in the hills.
Thanks for all the help

And a bizzilion others have asked for the same information. Begin by sitting back with a supply of your favorite snacks and drinks and reading every thread on this Forum about EFI modifications and at this Forum too:

But I know every power gain on any engine is a gas consuming and extra cost in the other side, ain't that right!!!!?.

Yes and No. Creating better air flow, i.e. FI exhaust manifolds, will help power and shouldn't hurt mpg. It all depends on what you do and how you use it afterwards. If you keep your foot on the floor enjoying the new found power, yes it sure will. But if you drive it conservatively it shouldn't.

Simple noticeable gain with my Dad's was we took the heavy stock fan off the front and added dual electric fans. If you do a little research there is a lot of write ups on that mod. Also maybe do a simple tune up. Check plugs, wires, filters, fuel pump/pumps, could also look at doing a custom intake, judging by the year it is s/d so you could make a custom cold air intake from some pipe and y it into a aftermarket filter. MSD ignition, or you could even advance the timing on the one you have now. There are a lot of very small inexpensive things you could do, but they are also small gains.

Since you are pulling you could also re gear but that gets pricey, do a minor cam, port and polish, bigger injectors, etc. But with the bigger mods you do look at gas differences unless you keep your foot off the pedal as said before.
