Oil pump drive shaft retainer gone?
Hey guys,
I didn't think anything out of the ordinary the few times I've pulled the dizzy out of the 351m in my 77' along the build until my friends dad mentioned that it's not suppose to come out. I did a little reading and saw that they're suppose to have a "retaining washer" on them.
Is it a big deal if that fell off and is in the oil pan or came out during an oil change that one of the PO's did or maybe the remanufacturer just didn't put it on?
Just wondering if I should be worried or not. I'm going to be pulling it again because I want to remove my intake to clean it up.
Thanks
-Justin

Shouldn't have come off as they are a pretty tight fit. They would be so that if you pull the dizzy out they dont come with it. Either a mongrel to get back on ar drop off and fall into the sump. NOT FUN!! when the dizzy is fitted it cant go any-where so no probs then. I'd suggest you may hear from some-one who has had it drop off into the sump. It may foul on the crankshaft if unlucky.
