My truck has been having electrical issues. it started 3 months ago and i still cant figure it out. it started with not wanting to start all the time, you would turn the key and hear it crank, but never turn over, or 50/50 that it wouldnt. then it started shutting off while i was driving it, everything...just shut off like it was never on.
I have replaced the battery, the alternator, the fuel pump, the ignition module under the distributor cap and starter and the cylinoid have been tested and are running great. i have heard that i must have a broken wire somewhere or that i am grounding out...but that doesnt give me a direction to look in as to where to start.
Lets start with this first; is the truck fuel injected or carburated? This will help us tell you the best method of troubleshooting the problem since they differ between EFI and carburation.
sounds like a ground issue to me, and basically check all your grounds, my buddy had a bad ground in his jeep for his tail lights and it made it do basically everything you said yours is doing
The bulkhead connector and most of the rest of the main engine harness connectors on the LH fender well near the master cylinder were badly corroded on ours........check those out
I had a similar problem and one of the members here helped me out. When you replaced the battery, did you run a heavy gauge separate ground wire to the body of the truck? I'm not talking about the normal ground, but a separate one to maybe the fender or front clip? I had all sorts of electrical problems with mine too. Soon as I did that, they all went away.
i know i have wiring issuess. My AC wires are melted and so are my reverse light...i want to rewire the truck because of that but with the other issues that are more major i havnt gotten to it. plus those have been like that since i bought the truck in Feb '10 and havnt caused an issue yet.
Series of problems:
i would press the gas and the truck would stutter like it was drowning, i replaced the spark plugs and that went away. shortly after that is when the starting problem started and then it graduated to dying on me while driving no matter what speed i was doing, if i was turning or going straight or if i was accelerating or not.

X2 on this TOTALLY, my mother's Neon started acting like that not so long ago... it was all caused by old insulation failing. Since i corrected the problem it has been working very nicely.
It sounds like a ground/power issue to me as well. it has to be one of the big wires, too. i can't see the reverse light wires causing an issue like this, especially since they should be on a fuse.
It appears you have 2 separate issues. The starting issue, and then the dying issue. Both of these are battery related so I would first check and prolly go ahead and replace the main power/ground cables on the battery. make sure that you connections are solid, too. No fancy paint where the connector bolt/clips to frame.
