I've done a little researching on here, without too much luck. What have you guys paid to have your plugs replaced? I know this is gonna vary depending how many if any would break.
Was wondering if my local guy could do it, he just has a small one man shop, don't know if he's dealt with any of the possible issues these things have or not.
Cost me $799 to have it done....That inclused parts and labor. All 8 broke and my truck just turned 50K
As long as your "guy" has the right tools then it shouldnt be a problem
Earlier this year I called around and got 3 quotes from three different dealers:
$143.00 labor, $30.00 for each broken plug, $28.00 for each plug. Plus tax.
$195.00 labor, $150.00 for each broken plug, $25.89 for each plug. Plus tax.
$525.00 for parts, labor, and tax out the door plus $50.00 for each broken plug.
The last dealer I talked to laughed and said "good luck" when I told him I was considering doing it myself.

I just bought a 2004 F150 5.4 v8. In addition to changing, the fluids, I've thought about changing out the plugs as well. I've gotten a few quotes and will post the costs when I get home.
In the meantime, is there a threat of a plug breaking during normal driving conditions? Or do the plugs only break while removing them?
Like Shorebird said whom ever does the work needs to have the tool. I would think anyone who is good enough to make a living as an autotech would have no issues with this job. The nut is really getting the right information and the tool. This really spooked me when I broke the second plug in half in my driveway with no tool. After I got the right information, on FTE Forum, and the lisle tool it was just down to taking my time on the other 6. Good Luck!

Plugs break when removed on the 5.4 3valve. The plugs are two piece and the torque require to remove from the engine is greater than the strength of the union on the two piece plug. I did read Some early 4.6's did spit plugs while running.
