Hey guys. Sorry to reopen such an old post, but I'm helping a neighbor with an old dumptruck that had the motor replaced with a 1979 Lincoln 460, and he is looking for a missing dipstick and tube that is threaded pan mounted, as shown in post #4 by co425. Does anyone possibly have a part number or know of someone who might have one? If co425 reads this, I am accually pretty close to you if you know anyone locally that may sell one. I'm up in Oroville, just south of Chico. Thanks in advance to any and all.

Dents with factory 460s were 2wd only, and front sump. The dipstick is on the front of the engine, through the timing cover

4x4s with swapped-in 460s need a rear sump so as to clear the front axle stuff. Those will have the dipstick in the side of the oil pan

Dipsticks in the side of the oil pan have a hex-head and threaded sleeve that secures the dipstick tube into the pan. It's kind if like a big flare fitting. My 351m 4x4 has this factory setup. The top of the tube has a bracket that attaches to an exhaust manifold stud

When I installed headers, I ran the dipstick tube between the header tubes, bent it gently to fit, and attached it to number six cylinder

Its definitely a side oil pan type. The truck itself is a Ford 1976 I think, but the previous owner had replaced it with what he said was a 1979 460 out of a Lincoln. We raised the engine a bit and took off the oil pan today. The sump is indeed in the rear, while the oil pump itself is in the front on the drivers side. Reason we pulled the pan, was the oil pump shaft between the pump and distributor was missing upon first firing new motor, and hence, no oil pressure. This happened probably a decade ago, when he first got the truck. Again, this is my 83 year old neighbors truck, not mine, so that's all I really know about that. The shaft itself, was sitting in the bottom of the pan. I don't know how its supposed to be installed, but it is identical on each end, except one end has a 360* dished clip about an inch from the end of one side. From what I'm looking at, that clip must go up so when the distributor is removed, it can't pull the shaft out of the oil pump. (which is what I assumed happened due to shaft being installed upside down??just a guess) Anyway, The dipstick tube definitely threads into the drivers side rear of the pan and was plugged by a widdled cone of wood. Lol
