Question Wiring trailer hardness to explorer

I have about given up!!! I bought a trailer with a four pin connector. I then when to Pepboys and bought the plug and go wiring hardness for my Ford Explorer $15.99. (One end, is round, has the factory connection which has 4 pins “males” and the other is the 4 pin flat connection) aka It is not the T-connection one. I plugged it in to the adapter on the left side under the taillight and got NOTHING!!! I check the other side and found the same thing but the factory connection on the right side had 6 holes for 6 pins and my adapter wound not go in!!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
I then went down the street to Webb RV, After they looked through a few books the guy said something about ordering a part and that I would have to run a wire to my battery??? It would cost $65 dollars. WHAT!!!<o></o>
I then went back to Pepboys and bought the 4-pin flat wiring hardness (One end has 4 pin flat connection with 36” of extra wire for hard wiring. SO….. plugged the trailer connection and the 4 pin flat from my truck together…..I removed the left taillight, took the yellow wire (for stop light/ left light ) and connected it to the green wire out “middle blub” (There where three wires Black smallest, brown, and green) I attached the white wire to the frame of my truck and got NOTHING. The lights on the trailer work on my neighbor trucks. <o></o>
Can someone help me……….I have a 4 door 2000 ford exploxer<o></o>
Thank you<o></o>

Yes, i tested all four pins. When I plugged in the tow ready adapter into the factorty adapter under my truck (it has what i believe to be a small led light) there was no power.

I also still have the kit to hardwire, but i dont think doing it the right way.

What is the best way to find the right wire and the ground.

I could no find a ground post/hole/srcew or anything for the white wire???

Use a test light or a DVOM (meter).... Any clean bond with the body or chassis will supply a ground.... Philip
