Lowered Truck Tire Size

Hey guys I'm thinking about taking my 20" wheels off of my lowered F-150 and putting the 15" stock chrome rims back on it with a raised white letter tire. I guess I'm getting older because I want to give it a little bit of an old school look again. I'm wanting a tire that is slighltly shorter...not much and quite a bit wider than the stock tire. I dont care about fuel mileadge. Right now I have a 3/5 drop that is soon to be a 3/4 because the rear is setting just a bit lower than the front. If you have pics of yours post them I would love to see them.

I ran 255/60/15 rears and 235/60/15 front with my 3/5 on my 86. It sat pretty close to level. If anything the rear was slightly higher still. Im on my phone but I can post pictures when I get home.

Hey man I saw you're from AR and if you happened to want to sell those 20"s I'll be happy to make an offer for them. They're the exact rims I want lol. I've been wanting to drop mine for some time as well, just level it out at least.

I'm in Fort Smith and I am interested in selling the 20's. They are almost new with around 3k on both the wheels and tires. They are boss 20's with goodyear eagle RSA's. 245/50 fronts and 255/50 rears. Both are in perfect condition. I paid around $1,600 for both wheels and tires. Make me a good offer and there yours.

Thanks man! Those are pretty close to what I'm looking for. I want just a little more side wall than that. I have been playing with a tire size calculator and a 275/60/15 might be close. That tire shows to be 2 inches more sidewall than what you have and about 2 less than what the stock tires size had. It's also 9.7 inches in width which is 2 more than stock. I think that I'm going to go to the tire shop and check them out.

You could do the 275s in the rear but wouldn't work in front. My 235 fronts would rub on big bumps.

I'll have to look into my funds, lol. I just had to replace the MLP Sensor (like 86F150302 told me it probably was) for $300, but I am definitely interested in the rims. I'm unfortunately about 4 hours south of Fort Smith, so it'll be a trip to get them. I'll let you know some time soon.

Also, how is the ride on the rims and did you have to re-calibrate the speedometer or any of that? I've just got the stock 15" (I think), aluminum rims on my truck now, at stock height.

The ride is fine. The only thing that jacked up the ride was the flip kit I put on it. I just ordered a shackle hanger kit to fix that problem. If your thinking about lowering the truck and you care about your ride don't use the flip kit on the rear. You will hate it. The tires are actually around the same overall diamater as the stock 235/75/15's so it did not have an affect on the speedo. It might be a couple MPH slow, but not much if any. Where in AR are you? I am all over a lot of the state with my job so we might be able to meet up if you are seriously interested. Let me know.

We lowered my grandpa's 86 a few years ago and had to run really low profile tires on the front of his because of the fender rub. I think that the 92-96 has more clearence than the 86. Im currently runnuing a tire on the 92 that is 29.1 inches tall and 9.5" wide with no rub at all. So im thinking that I should be able to run a similar tire on the 15's. The 255/60/15 is 27.1 overall diameter and 9.1" wide. I'm thinking I could run that tire all the way around if I wanted to.

Does anyone know the backspacing on the factory wheels? My 20"s are 14 and I know that will make a difference on what I can fit. I dont want the tires sticking out from the fenders. I dont like that look on a lowered truck.

Thanks traxx. I like the fact that the 275/60 is 28" tall. I'm going to have to make a trip to my tire shop and check out all of these different sizes. I still want a decent sidewall to keep the ride as good as it can be for a lowered truck and I want it to have decent width too. Thanks for the input. It's nice seeing another flareside out there!

Yes, I am very interested in the rims. I'm just worried about 20" being too big, but I'd have to see them in person. They look good on your truck, don't really look that big. I'm in Pine Bluff (unfortunately), so I'll have to get some locking lugs lol. I'm still trying to figure out what I can afford to offer you I don't want to low ball you, but I want to get them for a decent price.

Its nice to see someone going back to a normal size and ditching the tacky 20s. I think you may not be able to really go much wider than 235 in the front.
