Need a little help...

I have a 97' F-150 XLT 2wd with the 4.2ltr v6. I love my truck, it has served me well in some rough times. I hate my motor! I wanna get out of that v6 so bad I can taste it. I need a cheap, easy fix for a simple design flaw. Here's my question, can I swap to a v8 without having to swap out my factory automatic trans? And if so, what 8s will fit? Small is OK, I'm not looking for performance, stock performance will do, just want to lose the money-pit v6. Help!
