Bad wheel bearings

When I bought My 02 the inner bearings where shot. I replaced the roters and the inner and outer bearings. abought 20,000 later the drivers side inner bearing went bad, I replaced both inner and outer bearings. 25,000 miles later I had the outer go out. Is this something anyone else has experinced? I did put a Timkins outer on it this time. Scott

so you have a two wheel drive with individual bearings inner and outer...I would say if a bearing failes in 20k miles, that 99% of the time it either was adjusted too tight, or had no grease.

I put as much grease on and in the bearings as I can get so I would guess I tork them to tight. Thanks Scott

the bearings on a 2 wheeel drive should not be "tight".. You snug up the nut to about 15 ft pounds to squeeze the grease and seat the bearings good. Then you back off the nut a flat so that the wheel rolls and spins easy. Grab the top and bottom and try to wiggle to see if there is any clearance in the bearings. There should be a small amount of wiggle or clearance, not snug. When they get warm and expaned, you dont want them to bind.

Also may have to pack the bearings before install, I think most come pre lubed now but doesn't hurt to pack them anyway.
