v-10 best fuel mileage
#61
Thanks all. Live in the Willamette valley in Eugene, Oregon. Terrain is pretty flat, elevation is right around the 1000 foot mark. I can live with the mileage, the ruck is smooth and powerful and has the capability to haul my family as well as anything else. it is an extended cab i believe, with the two main doors and the smaller doors that open suicide style. thought about lowering the stance a bit (it is 2X2) but a friend at work talked about having to flip the springs, box the frame and it is a real hassle for less capability to haul stuff. Will probably keep the truck for another year or two then trade it in on a F150 with a V8. A TD would be cool but can't see paying the premium plus the upkeep when it gets higher mileage. 5 star tuner will be a definate, probably leave everything else as is. Intake looks like a good design and exhaust mods could be pricy. Will ride the bike when possible.

When ready to trade look into that ecoboost (new or used). Seems to be powerful and very efficient, from what it seems. Get a crew cab if funds allow. Those extended cabs get real small real fast with extra people.

That was the tradeoff for me as well. I wanted a truck with some 'nads, plus it's our family car so it had to be roomy. I also didn't want the F150 crew cab because it doesn't have a full size bed. The V10 gets about the same mileage as the 5.7 Suburban it replaced, so I can (kinda) afford the $3.89 a gallon gas here in NorCal.

I seem to getting better MPG as more milage is put on my truck. I have 6500 miles on the truck. I drive between 65 and 75 on the Frwy and the speed limit on the surface streets.
When I first bought the truck I was getting 9 MPG. As the mileage is being put on, I now get 11.5. So I am thinking the truck is finally getting broke in.
By reading on here maybe if I am lucky I will see 12 tops. I pretty happy with that.

MPG
The best I can squeeze is 13.5mpg. It's a 1999 F-350 - Extended Cab - 8' Bed - Dually. Pretty much stock except for a K&N Air Filter, 5Star Y-Pipe, and regular maintenance. Oh yeah, a totally rebuilt Dana 60 front axle (yep, I did it ) might let it roll a little better now. Who knows...
