Very irritating heat shield-like noise coming from transmission at 2000rpm

I cant replicate the sound when its in park so i did a very dangerous diagnosis having a friend stomp on the break in gear and rev the engine to exactly 2000rpm as i searched for the sound. The sound is coming from in front of the transmission. I had removed the inspection cover as per another members fix for this sound and its still there. Could it be the torque converter touching something after it flexes at that speed? plz help.. its an embarrasiong sound.

I have the same noise that has been there since I bought it with17k miles. I believe its coming from a heat shield.

Isn't there some type of inspection plate on the transmission that can come loose and make that rattling noise? Thought I remember reading about that a while back???

I don't know if mine is the same noise. I have the 5.4. And it is a cross between an exhaust rattle and the sound of like metal on metal, but mine completely goes away once the truck is hot.

I removed that inspection plate completely and its still there. I know the sound is coming from the transmission though.. because as it was revved, the noise came right out of where the inspection plate bolts too. The first post is probably right about the flex plate. 7 hours to change it

sounds like the flex plate or the TC it self. My 02 f250 was doing the same thing and it turned out to be the TC. I had mine out and back in in 4hours. And that was on a 4x4 f250

I have the same noise. It sounds like a guard or cover of some sort. I am not worried about it for the short run. My Ranger does the same type of thing. I think it is a Ford feature.

My 5.4 EX does the same thing until it is warm then goes away. I was thinking exhaust related.

Guess not. Mine is going into the shop for a transmission service and plug replacement next week. They said they would look over the whole truck and give me a assesment of its condition.

Mine has a odd issue with missing transmission fluid. The underneath is dry, no fluid in the coolant or oil. It is beyond me.

Heat shield noise.

Alright... I had the same noise and if you look at the heat shields on the exhaust near the Y pipe you will prob find a weld cracked. I've used hose clamps to hold them tight or removed them if more than one weld is broken. Check it out...
