Hi All,
Posted this in Electrical but not getting any response. Posting here hoping for some help.
Have already fixed the weak lock motors on my 2000 F250 thanks to the great info on this site. Now I can't get the truck to go into programming mode. I know it has Keyless entry, as I located the relays and identified the wiring while trying to fix the weak locks before I found the fix here.
I've tried the key on off 8 times but the locks never cycle. I've tried it with the driver door open and closed, cycling the locks from unlocked to locked to unlocked before cycling the ignition switch. Tried cycling the ign switch 5 times, 8 times and 10 times. No help. Any ideas???
It's an XLT. I have a friend who has an automotive program that includes wiring diagrams. There are diagrams for "with" and "without" keyless entry and the components(relays), locations, numbers of wires, and wire colors all match the "With" Keyless entry configuration.
I can tell you that keyless was only an option, not standard on your XLT. The fact that it won't respond to programming is good evidence that you don't have that option on the truck. It is always possible that you have it and something is inop.
My best guess is that your schematic for "without KE" is for XL trucks. Keyless was not available on the XL level.
My truck has wires going to the GEM and the lights as called for in the wire diagram for "with keyless entry". When you look at the plug for the driver door lock switch the number of wires and the color coding of the wires match the "with" keyless entry wire diagram but definately do not match the "Without" diagram.
Is the logic and reciever for the keyless part of the Gem or seperate. I didn't see a receiver of any kind in the wire diagram.

If you are certain you are getting to the setup properly then you might have a GEM issue.
For programming a keyless entry fob for your vehicle, just use the following directions:
Insert a key in the ignition and without starting your car, turn the key from OFF to ON eight times in rapid succession (within 10 seconds) with the eighth turn ending in the ON position.
The doors will lock/unlock to confirm that programming mode has been entered.
Within 20 seconds, program a remote transmitter by pressing any button on the transmitter. The doors will lock/unlock to confirm that the remote transmitter has been programmed. If more than 20 seconds pass before pressing a remote transmitter button, the programming mode will exit and the procedure must be repeated.
Repeat the previous step to program additional remote transmitters. The doors will lock/unlock to confirm that each remote transmitter has been programmed.
When you have completed programming the remote transmitters, turn the ignition to OFF, or just wait 20 seconds. Again the doors will lock/unlock to confirm programming has been completed.
I was hoping it wasn't the Gem. In the past Gem problems gave themselves away with other symptoms like windows not working and dome lights not working etc.
Saw where someone had to lock and unlock their doors several times before starting the sequence. Will try that.
Are you simply basing your having the keyless system on wiring? It may not be the GEM, you might not have the option, I think if you took your VIN to a dealer they can tell you for sure.
Thanks for the replies. Will try it again. May have been going to the lock position instead of off. If it doesn't work I'll stop by the Dealer tomorrow and see if they can help.
Went by my local dealer today and service manager says they only have access to build sheets by VIN number going back 10 years. Gave me an 800 customer service number to call to see if I could get help from corp. We'll see.
