Suggestions on Build!

current: 95 f250 5.8 4x4 8600 gvw 4600 lb Dana 50 front/10.25 full floater Sterling rear
Trans: E40D
225,000 Miles

I wish to buy a unit from the "yard" both trans and motor to completely rebuildat my leisure as time/miney permits.
I have a machine/welding shop however do not do block or head work.

The f250 is used to tow either tongue or fifth wheel from auctions where I purchase machine tools/equioment/ forlifts for repair and resale.

Pls give me suggestions on the above builds (models and years), don't want to go really radical crazy.

I really like the 351w and have towed 7000 lb forklifts with no problem on a tongue 16" trailer.

God Bless
John

There's lots of potential in the 5.8 but that E4OD trans is going to complicate things if you want any respectable power from this motor. It's no problem at all to get into the 350hp range with better heads, intake and cam on an otherwise stock bottom end, and you'll get loads of Tq with that as well, but it will require a MAF computer, larger injectors, and some tuning and the stock computer doesn't support that and MAF/E4OD computers are harder to come by. If you swapped in a manual trans options open up quite a bit, you could use a Mustang computer which is also compatable with most aftermarket tuners so it'll be relatively easy to setup this motor.

I assume u mean the "ZF" tranny.
When I had an AAMCO for 15 yrs, I had a builder who lived eat and breathed trannys 24/7 and was recognized as tops in his field west cost. You remind me of him often.

Thanks
John
